WHAT IS STEWARDSHIP?

At the beginning of each year, The Woodlands Methodist Church emphasizes the value of stewardship, encouraging generosity and the annual financial commitments of its members to support the vital work of its ministries.

Stewardship is about intentionally making room for God in our lives. It means dedicating our time, resources and energy to honor Him, recognizing His presence in everything we do, and giving Him our “first and best.” When we make space for God, we open ourselves to His blessings, align with His plans, and reflect His love to others. Giving isn’t just about checking a box or fulfilling obligations; it’s about creating opportunities for God to work in and through us. By living this way, we grow in faith, deepen our connections with others, and become part of something bigger than ourselves.

Generosity honors the greatest gift God has given us — His Son, Jesus. When we give, we reflect His spirit of generosity, offering our time, talents and resources as a way to honor God and share His love with others. What we give, no matter how small, creates waves that impact others in ways we may never see.

Giving isn’t about what the church wants from you; it’s about what God desires for you. He wants us to live with open hands, giving from a heart of gratitude and trusting Him to provide for our needs while we use what we have to bless others.

Tithing is a biblical practice that teaches us to prioritize God. By giving the first portion of what we have back to Him, we acknowledge that everything we have comes from Him. Tithing is a tangible way to make room for God, showing that we trust Him to meet our needs.

Stewardship isn’t something we have to do — it’s something we get to do. It invites us to be part of something bigger, allowing God’s work to transform not only our lives but the lives of everyone around us. When we live generously and intentionally, we make room for God to work in us and through us. We make room for Him to transform the world.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why is stewardship important for the church?

Stewardship means dedicating our time, talents and resources for God’s glory. It’s about trusting God with the gifts He’s given us and using them to further His mission. A key part of this is yearly financial commitments, which provide the necessary funding for the church to operate, serve and grow in ministry. These commitments make it possible to support programs, facilitate outreach and carry out the daily work of spreading God’s Word.

What if I’m already giving?

We are so grateful for your ongoing generosity and commitment to our church community. Even if you have already set up an automatic giving schedule, we invite you to share your annual intent to give by making a stewardship pledge. This step helps us thoughtfully plan for ministry needs and continue offering programs and events that nurture our congregation and serve the wider community. Please remember, a stewardship pledge reflects contributions to the general fund of the church and does not include other forms of giving, such as missions. Thank you for being a vital part of this meaningful work!

How can I participate in stewardship?

You can participate by making an annual commitment pledge and finding meaningful ways to honor God in your daily life. While we believe in the biblical tithe of 10% given to God, generosity can begin with any amount. Additionally, you can give of your time by volunteering on a serve team or participating in local missions projects. Together, we can make a difference and live out our faith through both giving and serving.

Does stewardship focus only on financial giving?

Not at all. Stewardship is about the holistic act of surrendering everything we have to God. While financial giving is part of it, stewardship also involves embracing who God made us to be and offering our time and talents to do His work on earth. These are all part of living a generous life of stewardship.

How does my giving leave a legacy?

Your contributions support ministries and programs that impact future generations, spread God’s Word and meet tangible needs in our church and beyond. You’re investing in eternity. Join us in making room for His work in our lives and in our community.
